Bits & Pieces – 27th October

This weeks random ramblings!

First the good news

Basingstoke Bison have been saved and will be travelling to the Fabulous NIC Trent FM Arena Nottingham England tomorrow for an Elite League fixture. The Basingstoke Gazette reports that rink owners Planet Ice have agreed to take over the ownership of the club until the end of the season. The future for the Bison after the end of the current season remains unclear and they suffered a further blow with the news that injured import Jason Goulet has returned to Canada and Mark Richardson has asked to be released from his contract. Rumours are that Richardson will be returning to Nottingham.

Panthers 3 Blaze 3

I reckon I didn’t watch a hockey game yesterday, I watched a play called ‘Comedy of Errors’! Overall this was a very entertaining game, but out of the six goals scored, just one was the result of good play, the rest were down to defensive turnovers or netminding errors. It was good to see the Panthers respond to going two goals down though, unlike last Saturday against Manchester and a battling performance ensured the draw, however I don’t think the Blaze could have complained too much had we gone on to win. If the Panthers are to qualify for the semi-finals of the Challenge Cup then wins against Cardiff & Basingstoke will guarantee progress to the knock out stages………….Unlike some 🙂

New EIHL Blog, written by a Bona Fide Journalist!

A new hockey blog has joined the ever growing fan hockey site phenomenon and this one is written by an actual journalist (unlike this one!!) Elite Hockey Today is written by Skysports.com ice hockey writer Neil Chiplen and although in it’s infancy it is excellently written. Highly recommended.

I guess they lost then!

The latest ‘Matsos Out’ campaign has started on Steel Bleat after the Dingles latest cup exit. Three games without a win, out of two cups and a team that is, to be honest, crap has lead to the regular campaign to remove one of British hockey’s nice guys from his job. It looks as though some Dingles are actually accepting their fate. One posting on the bleat today reads “Maybe its time we faced up to the fact that our inconsistencies are down to the fact that we are just simply not good enough!” While I applaud the fact that one of their fans has finally accepted the inevitable, I stated as much in the TCW season preview. It was obvious that a team that was greatly improved by Dan Tessier wouldn’t be much good without him, and I still believe that will be Matsos’s biggest regret. However, I’m sure the Dingles with be happy in the knowledge that Dan’s new team can go top of the league with a win tomorrow night!

Mmmmmmmmm Tasty!

After the release of ‘The Rumanator’ sausage last week, here at TCW Towers we began to rack our brains for other tasty treats from the world of hockey.

Firstly we have the obvious Cornish Pasty. This regular of the hockey food scene used to be quite tough and unappetising, but latest batches have been known to go down quite easily!

Next we have Galbraith Gammon. Looks great at first but disappears far too quickly!

We also have a variation of of the classic soup Coq a Leekie, lovingly called Capitals Defence!

Obviously to advertise these culinary masterpieces we have to copy the best in the M&S ‘Food Porn’ advertisements. Imagine the dulcet tones of the lovely Dirvla Kirwan saying Hand picked straight from the carcass, filled with the finest Yorkshire Bullshit and smothered with the kind of love that only the finest family can give. This is not just an ice hockey player, this is Sheffield Steeler’s Brad Cruikshank”
