Steelers manage a new low

Everyone pretty much knows I despise the teal & orange filth that is the Sheffield Steelers, but today they sunk to a brand new low. The Steelers players acted like a bunch of classless morons as they celebrated their play-off win in front of the Panthers fans, coupled with abusive gestures and bad language. The only thing worse than a bad loser is a bad winner. They were very brave making their gestures while protected by the plaxi glass!

It’s a real shame because they totally deserved the title built on fantastic defence, however they can’t even manage to win with class. Why do teams such as Newcastle and Manchester have uncertain futures when teams like Sheffield deserve to go under so much more?

According to Jody Lehman on the steelers site he was annoyed at the way the panthers treated the blaze in the semi, and was getting a little payback. I’d rather the players not behave this way and leave the gloating to the fans though! great game

Jono, whilst I do not condone what the guys did yesterday (i wasn’t close enough to see any spitting). Some of your own fans need to take off the specs a bit. Those who say that the people in Block 106 did nothing are liars. I was in block 10 surrounded by Panthers and Giants fans and we all commented on the abusive hand signals coming from a group of grown men and women about 5 rows back in 106. Even your own fans were unhappy mate. These signals and the like weren’t after the game, they were during the warm up and all the way through the game, there were kids all around them.

My question is this, why didn’t any one of the number of people around them tell them to stop and watch the game. The guy next to me was going to go down and sort it out at one point and he was one of your own fans with a child so if he spotted it why didn’t your fans do anything who were sat there.

Lehmans point was that your guys were bouncing off the plexi when celebrating at 5 and 6 -2 up, he feels this was way OTT and showed a distinct lack of respect to his former employers and friends. I don’t know, I wasn’t there. So he wanted to give your team some back which to me is fair enough. I haven’t seen anything to suggest that he swore or gestured to your fans. I saw Finner twirling his stick and waving to your fans around 15 seconds before the end of the game. Again to me fair enough it’s a bit of banter. If our guys were doing the V’s and spitting then that was wrong.

Regarding the spitting, after chatting to one of the players, I understand that one of your fans spat over the plexi whilst we were celebrating. How true this is I don’t know, for people to be emotional and angry about it then it must have happened, I hate spitting and for our players to have done this makes me cringe. Who did this first is irrelevant both were out of order.

Where we were sat, there were some Phoenix fans behind us who were singing away merrily. However, they took one of their chants over the line regarding Legue and his situation. As you can imagine, it was dealt with those of us near them – again by both Panthers fans and Steelers fans alike. No trouble was caused and they carried on with the 6 team league chants again.

Jono, you are a mate and someone I have lots of time for, but mucker, some of your own fans need to take a long hard look in the mirror before commenting, especially those who were in block 6 becuase there were plenty of fans using fowl and abusive language and gestures during the game and not one of them sat close by did anything.

Anyway mate, always next year. Have a great summer if I don’t see you.
