Glad All Over, Clarke & Lee sign

Corey Neilson announced another returnee to his Panthers squad for next season as sharp shooter David Clarke returns for another season. Blighted by injury in the season just passed, Clarke ended the season on a high being part of the GB squad which won a bronze medal in the World Championships. Some Panthers fans feel he has a lot to prove after spending so much time on the sidelines, plus he is often criticised for drifting out of games. Personally I’m delighted he’s returning, the only snipers better in this country belong to Special Branch! His figures of 28+21 in 41 games were 8th best on the roster, but his points per game ration of 1.22 was 4th best and his goals per game ratio of 0.68 was the best on the team. David Clarke is the best natural goalscorer the Britain has and I’d much rather he was scoring for us than against us.

Stephen LeeClarke wasn’t the only signing to be announced by Panthers today as it was revealed that 18 year old defenceman Stephen Lee has joined from Guildford Flames of the EPL. Lee made his debut for the Hull Stingrays aged 14, and has enjoyed success at international level with GB under 18’s and 20’s. Reading THF, many Flames fans are pretty gutted he has left, describing him as a real talent. I’m sensing that this will be a very shrewd and clever signing by Corey Neilson. The official announcement of both signings is on the Panthers Website.

In other news, that well known bastion of truth The Sheffield Star reports that Mark Richardson is set for a return to Cardiff Devils while Matt Myers is set to move to the ECHL in the States. Considering that I struggle to believe the date in that paper I’ll wait for the official announcement!

Finally the Coventry Blaze have thrown down the netminding gauntlet by signing Danish international Peter Hirsch from Aalborg, who recently announced Jody Lehaman as his replacement. I know who got the better of that deal, and it isn’t the Scandinavians!
