Brit Ross Dalgliesh signs

Perhaps the worst kept secret in British hockey was finally revealed yesterday as it was announced that 19 year old forward Ross Dalgliesh had joined the Panthers from Edinburgh Capitals (Panthers website, Evening Post). The Scot has gone out to Canada to join Corey Neilson’s summer training camp in Orangeville. Although he probably won’t be as productive points wise as the departing Matt Myers, Dalgliesh is described by Capitals fans as a tough, two-way forward who isn’t afraid to get his nose dirty. He spent the majority of last season recovering from a dislocated shoulder but in the 18 games he played he had respectable figures of 3+3 and 14 PIMs. To be honest I don’t know alot about him and I can’t say I’ve noticed him in previous games against the Caps, but the endorsements from the Capitals fans can only make me feel optimistic about Dalgliesh’s capture.

In other news, it has been revealed that Panthers will be taking part in a three team tournament in Hull on August Bank Holiday weekend. Panthers will play the Tilburg Trappers from the Dutch league on Sunday 30th August and the hosts Hull Stingrays the following day. A good opportunity for us to see this seasons Panthers line-up.

Finally as mentioned above, Corey Neilson is putting the Panthers youngsters through their paces at his training camp in Orangeville. This weekend the team links up with Bruce Richardson and Dominic D’Amour to play in the Montreal ‘Stanley Keg’ tournament, where the team are playing under the name of ‘Habitations Clement & Larose’ (Stanley Keg 2009 website). It appears that the lads will be playing against NHL draft picks and far more seasoned professionals, which should provide a great learning experience. There is also a training camp blog, written by Corey and the players, which is available here.
