Credit where it’s due

Whilst having a browse over the various fan forums today, I noticed a thread on Steeltalk which caught my eye. The Steelers are setting up a fans advisory board which will have a minimum of ten fans meeting monthly to discuss all issues regarding the club and the sport. A list of issues will then be submitted to Mike O’Connor and answers will be published for the wider fanbase to see.
Now, hold on to your hats because I’m going to praise the Sheffield Steelers. What a superb idea and what a great way to engage the fanbase and make them feel part of the club. I accept that it’s a new initiative and may fail, but at least they’re giving it a try so full marks to them. I’m not aware of anything like this already happening at any other Elite League club, although I stand to be corrected.
Compare this with the Nottingham Panthers. We may have the biggest fanbase but we can’t afford to rest on our laurels. Take a look at the thread on The Cage marked ‘Pretty Disillusioned’ (LINK). It’s obvious that there are some people within the our fanbase who feel detatched from the club. Read the thread and you’ll find several complaints, from the website content to match night presentation to the happenings on the ice. Different posters with different complaints. The thing is, these sort of grumbles have been going on for years, but nothing ever seems to change. An initiative like the one the Steelers are introducing would go some way to appeasing the disgruntled fans, at least they’d feel that the management were listening to them.
I don’t know if anyone within the hierarchy of the club reads TCW or The Cage, but surely they need to start listening because the last thing you want to do is start taking your fans for granted, otherwise as the Steelers have found, the attendances will start to drop.

This idea was mooted a few years ago and a meeting was held with NB. It was stated that further meetings would be held, but as usual a big fat nothing.

I was expecting a joke at the end about all this being cancelled as the ten fan minimum could not be reached, but you let me down.
