Best of British as three return

More signing news from the Panthers as British trio David Clarke, Marc Levers and Danny Meyers will all return to the NIC next season [Evening Post Report].

Defenceman Meyers will return for his fifth straight season with the Panthers and his third as captain on the back of a much improved campaign, he reverted to a more stay at home style which suited his game and was badly missed when absent with an injury in the latter stages of the regular season. As captain he lifted his first trophy when Panthers won the Challenge Cup in March. Personally I’m very pleased to see him back, British defenceman are something of a rarity and he is one of the top ones out there.

Levers returns for his fourth straight season on the back of a superb season. The esteem he is held by his team-mates was made clear when he picked up the players player of the season award at Panthers awards night. Our best defensive forward in my opinion, Levers is also one of the best penalty killers in the Elite League, but he also has the knack of scoring important goals, notching one in each leg of the Challenge Cup Final. I am very pleased that Levers has returned, if I were in Corey Neilson’s skates he would have been my first re-signing.

Finally, David Clarke returns for his seventh Panthers season. One of, if not the most natural British goal scorer, Clarke enjoyed his best ever season notching 37 goals and 36 assists. It would have been devastating to see Clarke play elsewhere in the Elite League, so I am very happy that he will be once again pulling on the black and gold.

Coach Corey Neilson has made an excellent start to recruitment for 2010/11, long may it continue.
