Oh Matty Myers

Great news from the Panthers as they have announced tonight the return of British centre Matt Myers after he spent last season in the ECHL. Sadly his North American season was hampered by injury, but still managed 3+5 for 8 points in 28 games with Bakersfield Condors and Johnstown Chiefs. Matt was hoping to get another crack at the ECHL, but that seems to have fallen through and he has returned to the Panthers, much to the delight of the fans.
Myers said of his return “Nottingham were very good when I had the chance to go to America after having already signed with the Panthers last year. It is a great organisation, the fans know what I think of them, it is a lovely arena and I want to do my best for everyone involved.”
Coach Corey Neilson said “It won’t have done Matt any harm playing in Bakersfield and Johnstown last season and he brings a lot to the table for us. We know what he can do, he can be a surprise package for opponents and it gives me a new batch of options when it comes to filling the last two import berths on the roster. Matthew ticks some of the boxes that might otherwise have to be filled by, say, a defenceman who can go forward on the powerplay. Having Matthew in the line-up would be a bonus for any team and the fact that we’ve got him will make the other teams envious. That’s their problem, not ours.”
With a forward and defensive import berth left to fill, the signing of Myers brings about a real possibility of four line hockey in Nottingham next season. After the signing of Dustin Sproat I didn’t think things could get much better as the weekend drew near, well they just did!
