Panthers sign Kelly Cup winner Dustin Sproat

Take a look at these figures. 90 games, 35 goals, 44 assists, 79 points, +/- of +30. These are the figures that new signing Dustin Sproat produced last season for Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL on the way to winning the Kelly Cup. However, it seems some of the Panthers fan base are under whelmed by this signing! Now, everyone is entitled to their opinion but I fail to see how anyone cannot be enthused by a player that produces those figures on the way to winning a championship. Add in the fact that he has been described by Cyclones fans as a great two way player and he can play either wing or centre and personally I think we’ve got ourselves one hell of an acquisition.
Sproat himself said of coming to Nottingham “I guess I’m known as a great two-way player, this year I had about a point a game playing on the best defensive team in the league but there’s more than that to come in a different system, I outscored some of the top names in the coast this year in all the big games and I can’t wait to bring that work ethic to Nottingham.”
Coach Corey Neilson said of his new capture “Dustin has five years in the pros under his belt, in Cincinnati, they made it to the Conference Finals last year and they won the Kelly Cup this year. In both campaigns Dustin led the team in playoff points, goals, and plus-minus. I can see him leading by example and making the big plays in the big games. He knows what’s expected of him and he is relishing the challenge. He’s a high energy guy and will be good value for the fans to watch.”
Obviously he can’t be properly appraised until he ices for us, but everything seems to say that this is an excellent signing and I for one am very much looking forward to seeing him take to the ice in September.

One hell of an acquisition is putting it mildly. Sproater puts up those numbers, never wanting the recognition. He’s a goal scorer, but is also a defensive forward. Playing two-way hockey and never complaining. He’ll do anything that’s asked of him. And he wants his team to win above all. He wants everyone to be successful. He’s one of the hardest-working, intelligent and generous people I’ve ever met. Kudos on a great signing! We’ll all be keeping tabs on him from over here!
