Brock Wilson Completes Squad

The Nottingham Panthers roster for the 2010/11 season is complete as import defenceman Brock Wilson is the final signing (Elite Prospect Stats). I must admit that my heart skipped a couple of beats as I saw Wilson and defenceman, expecting to see that we had signed former Vipers coach Rob! Thankfully I was very much mistaken!

Wilson comes to Panthers from the ECHL where he has had spells with Augusta Lynx, Dayton Bombers, Toledo Walleye & Utah Grizzlies and at only 25 joins one of the youngest overall Panthers teams in recent times. Hopefully we’ll see plenty of young, hungry hockey players willing to give everything in every game. Coach Corey Neilson said of his new capture “I have known Brock for a long time, his father is former NHL player Rik Wilson, and Brock has lived and breathed hockey all his life. The way our team is set up we needed a solid, stay-at-home defenceman to complete the roster and that’s just what he is, he plays mean and he ticks all the right boxes for me.” Of the squad overall, Neilson said “It’s good. We’ve got a team of guys who all know they have to go out and earn their money every game we play. They all want to play in Nottingham and they’re all ambitious. We’ve got goal-scoring, we’ve got physical presence, we’ve skills and speed and toughness when required.”

I’ll wait and see the guy play before I pass comment, only to say that I hope Neilson’s claim that Wilson has a mean streak is true, I don’t want to see any opposing forward get anywhere near Craig Kowalski’s goal crease without getting flattened. With his time in the ECHL he’s obviously no mug, I hope he proves to be a rock in defence, unlike some we had last year!
