Lepine completes Panthers roster

After the disappointment of Brock Wilson reneging on his Panthers contract coach Corey Neilson has moved quickly to find a replacement, signing Guillaume Lepine from Elmira Jackals in the ECHL [Elite Prospects Stats].
The signing has created much debate on the various forums, unfortunately most appears to be negative due to Lepine’s penalty minutes and the amount of fights he has had throughout his career, however my own personal opinion was that we were looking a bit lightweight, Alex Penner excepted, so for me Lepine fits that bill perfectly. I don’t expect him to fight too much, but he will provide a more than able back up to Penner and will hopefully not let anyone get near Craig Kowalski’s crease.
As for his defensive abilities, well that will all become clear from 4th September but overall his plus/minus rating in two seasons for Elmira was +1, which is encouraging.
Of his new signing Neilson said “I’ve spoken to this guy’s previous coaches and they rate him as mean on the blue line. He led the East Coast in fights two seasons ago and was second in fights last year. He skates well and hits hard and like everyone on the roster this year, he wants to win and he sets his sights on playing solid good ‘D’.”
I think he’ll be a more than adequate acquisition, despite what some may say!
