Panthers v Steelers Challenge Cup Preview

The biggest rivalry in the entire galaxy gets underway again this Wednesday and Friday as Panthers and Steelers meet in the group stages of the Challenge Cup.
There have been a few changes since the Steelers victory at the NIC earlier this month, Panthers should have a full squad to choose from but Steelers have worries of their own (did someone say Fraud Squad?) with Jonathan Phillips, Mark Thomas and Jerraime Domish almost certainly missing and Rob Globke a possible absentee considering he hasn’t played since Guy Lepine’s superb check for which he disgustingly received a four match ban. There has been talk that Steelers players might try to exact revenge on Lepine for that hit, however with them being short benched it’s unlikely, but lets hope they do as it’s always good watching Derek Campbell get beat up! I spoke to Alex Penner at the weekend and he’s certainly looking forward to Wednesday night, and I think I’ll leave that one there!
Panthers will have Angel Nikolov and Rob Bellamy making their Panthers/Steelers debuts. Both have really impressed since joining the team and will give Panthers that extra dimension that was so much lacking on October 9th.
With the disparity in the number of Challenge Cup games played so far two defeats would almost certainly see Steelers out of the competition and missing out the extra revenue a semi-final would bring. Panthers have only played one game in the competition so far and two victories would put us level on points with Steelers and the Blaze and just one point behind Group B leaders Cardiff Devils.
Two important games and hopefully Panthers will take advantage of a weakened Steelers to take both games (and rough them up a bit as well which is always a bonus).
TCW Live will be providing the usual coverage from Wednesday’s game, coverage will start at 7.20pm (Which means we’ll be getting slagged off on Steeltalk at 7.20pm!) The link will be posted on Wednesday.
