Who can stop The Devils?

Sometimes you just happen to be privileged enough to witness greatness, last night I was fortunate enough to do just that. I am not over-exaggerating when I say that Cardiff Devils performance in beating Sheffield Steelers 7-1 in Sheffield was the greatest team performance I have ever seen, they really were that good.
From the opening face-off Cardiff fore-checked like their lives depended on it. It’s interesting that many Steelers fans are bemoaning an ‘awful’ performance by their team on the forums today, but I’d say it was Cardiff making them look bad by allowing them no time on the puck and forcing turnovers and mistake from home side. The Devils raced into a 3-0 lead, their first goal scored by Weller was quite special electing to blast the puck into the top corner rather than skate in and deke Mustukovs.
Steelers did managed to score on a 5 on 3 powerplay, but that was about it for them, Devils scored another and it was 4-1 at the end of the first. Another two periods of total dominance from the Devils saw them finish 7-1 winners. Steelers were made to look like a rec team by a quite awesome Devils display.
Comedy moment of the game came late in the 3rd as Jeff Legue was called for hooking, causing the Steelers forward to completely lose it! After throwing his helmet into the penalty box (which promptly bounced out) he then flipped referee Carson the bird that saw his 2 minute hooking minor upgraded to a Match penalty for abuse of official! More was to follow as Legue threw a water bottle at Brad Voth on the Cardiff bench as he was going for his early bath! Some Steelers fans are lauding Legue for his actions, but I wonder if they’d be enjoying it so much had it been the other way round and Voth launched a water bottle into the Steelers bench? Whilst I can understand the frustration my opinion is that this was a stupid, petulant act and I can see Legue getting more than a one match ban once the incident is reviewed, which will hurt the Steelers further.
However the incident shouldn’t take away from a magnificent Devils performance. I firmly believe they will now go on and win their first Elite League title and will continue with their incredible winning streak, which now stands at 21 games.
Who can stop the Cardiff Devils? I don’t think anyone can.
