Zion is Gone!

Obviously disturbed by the vitriolic anger within the fanbase, Panthers have sent out a token gesture to try and appease the fans by sacking defenceman Jonathan Zion. While it perhaps would be fair to say that it’s too little, too late it shows the Panthers at their worst in my opinion, a complete knee-jerk reaction to try and deflect the deserved criticism that is coming their way from the supporters. You have to say that this is Panthers management face saving at its finest. They’ve looked at who has been getting the most abuse and cut them in order to appease the fans and while Zion has been pretty terrible these last few weeks he has been by no means on his own. A shame really as before his injury he was in quite magnificent form.
With just three days to go until the IIHF transfer deadline you’d have to hope that the management have a replacement lined up, otherwise we will go into the latter end of the season one import short with Ian McDonald also on his way out of the club. If there were no replacement it would seem to me that the club are trying to save money given that there is no hope of a league title. While I could understand Mr Black’s stance on this it would be very much short-changing the fans that pay good money to watch the team week in, week out. Let’s face it, our defence now consists of an over the hill egomaniac, the league’s most wanted man, a decent Euro, a landscape gardener with a knackered shoulder, a good up and coming British defenceman with a lot still to learn and Graham Norton!

A complete knee-jerk reaction, you say?

Bit like the appointment of Strachan then – and how many games have we won since he came on board?

I think it is panic stations at Panthers HQ!

Love the way you describe our defence!
The thing is Neilson doesn’t know what to do when he has a good defenceman (Nick Toneys)

Zion has been awful since October and should have been let go before Christmas so we could bring in another stay-at-home guy.
Neilson the player has been far better since Strachan has been on the bench.
