Panthers v Clan Play-Off Review

The final four has been decided and we now know who will be taking part in the Play-Off weekend at the NIC next weekend. At 5pm on Saturday the Devils will take on the Giants, while at 1pm it’s the small matter of Panthers v Steelers for a place in the final. Panthers qualified after two storming games with the Braehead Clan, starting on Friday night in Braehead…..

Friday 25th March – Clan 4 Panthers 5
A five hour drive, money for a hotel room and money for food & drink (mainly at Wetherspoons, gotta love them prices!) Was it worth it? You bet your sweet bippy it was! The 2,400 in attendance at the Braehead Arena on Friday night were treated to a quite wonderful game of play-off hockey where both sides played at 100% intensity for the entire game. I just hope it came across on the TCW coverage how good the game was.
Both teams could have taken the game, the Clan were guilty of not making the most of their several powerplay chances though and Panthers made them pay.
There were several stand out performances on both sides. For the Clan I was mightily impressed with Brendan Cook, Tim Wedderburn, Jordan Kretanovich and Jon Landry, who never seemed to be off the ice.
For the Panthers the stand-out performers were Matt Myers, Rob Bellamy, Danny Meyers and the much maligned Jade Galbraith, who I thought had an excellent game and played a superb play maker role.
Panthers took a one goal lead into the second leg and I would say shaded the game due to creating better chances and taking them. I also managed to keep my record of having never seen Panthers lose in Scotland (5 games now) which was nice.

Saturday 26th March – Panthers 3 Clan 0 (Panthers win 8-4 on aggregate)
I was expecting more of the same on Saturday night for the return leg. We still got the intensity from both sides, but what I thought was an incredibly professional and clinical Panthers performance saw us qualify for the finals quite easily in the end. Although Clan looked very dangerous at times going forward they couldn’t find a way through the Panthers defensive systems. By the time David Beauregard had scored Panthers third goal on the night Clan looked a beaten team and our place at the drunken weekend was assured.

It’s going to be a big week here on The Cat’s Whiskers as we look forward to the weekend. Paul & me have been putting together some T-Shirt designs which should be up on Monday or Tuesday. Greg Mitchell will be getting angry about who knows what, they’ll be a weekend preview and then on Saturday & Sunday TCW Live will be bringing you all the action from both semi-finals and the final as Iain & me cover both games live.

You bet your sweet bippy! I haven’t heard that in a very long time 🙂 I too went up to Braehead on Friday, for my 5th game, 3x Edinburgh and 2x Clan. I read TCW Live on the way back to Nottingham – it was like being there all over again!

I will be at the play off weekend with my eldest grandson and so will not be tuning in to TCW live again this season but a very big thank you for your coverage over the season – we only get to one or two road games so it has been a real lifeline. It has also saved me a good deal of frustration (and cost)ringing the Panthers “live” score service and eventually getting the first period details repeated an hour after the gane has finished. The Elite league website gives the statistics but fails to convey the flow and atmosphere of the game. I have endured many nail biting evenings and not a few disappointing ones but never any disappointment with your FREE service. Thanks again – and if K Walls dad is tuning in for the play offs keep reminding him that we want his son back next year.
