UK Forum All-Stars Weekend Preview

This weekend sees the fourth annual Forum All-Stars Weekend taking place at Ice Sheffield. The yearly tournament has players of all abilities coming together to play ice hockey for charities, with the emphasis on raising money, making friends and having fun.
I have been speaking to organiser David Grant (known to most as Big Dave Steeler) about this years festivities. First I asked him about the history of the event “It started in 2008. With the collaspe of the THF weekend, myself and Gareth Hubback felt that we could put on a charity hockey weekend to allow the same spirit from previous charity weekends to continue. The first event had over 35 players register. The year after in Basingstoke, we decided to have two charities, with Breast Cancer Care being the addition to Dreams Come True. Cardiff last year ensured that we had four teams, to change the format, and we included Marie Curie and a ‘local option’ which last year was the Devils Community Foundation. We were going to have the same format this year, but because of the huge demand we expanded to five teams”
Who are the charity teams taking part this year and how can people donate? “The teams are Breast Cancer Care, Dreams Come True, Help For Heroes, Prostate Cancer Charity and Sheffield Children’s Hospital. People can donate by searching for their friends on justgiving and donating via there, or they can come along to Sheffield over the weekend of the 16-17th July and come along and support the event.”
What’s new this year? “Well apart from an additional team, we have a ‘plate tournament’ for those who finished in the 3-5 position. We are also hopeful to have a sledge hockey exhibition over the weekend. Off ice, we have a race night, at the Royal Standard public house in Sheffield on Friday night, as well as a charity casino night at G Casino on Sunday night to really spread the fun over the weekend. Full details of the weekend can be found at our website http://www.ukfallstars.co.uk/index.html

I’m expecting this weekend to be a cracking one, especially after taking part in the events in Basingstoke and Cardiff. The hockey is great and played in a sharp, quick, punchy format of 25 minutes running clock. Games will be taking place over both Saturday and Sunday at Ice Sheffield [Full running order].
Entry for the weekend is just £3 for each day or £5 for the weekend. If you can please come down and show some support, I know the players and the charities will very much appreciate it.

Finally, how can you donate to those all important charities? Details are linked below:

The Childrens Hospital Charity (This is my own personal Just Giving page as I am playing for this team at the weekend. As well as donating via Just Giving you can also donate any amount from £1 to £10 via Text Message from your mobile. Just text JONO72 £5 to 70070)
