Bye, Bye Beau & Thanks

With the Panthers announcing David Ling as their sixth and final import forward for the 2012/13 season, it means that top sniper David Alexandre Beauregard will not be returning to the club.
I’ve made it no secret that DAB has been my favourite player to wear the Panthers shirt over the past couple of seasons, he displayed everything I like to see in a hockey player, commitment, effort & no shortage of skill. The epitome of the sort of player he was came to the fore in the closing stages of the play-off final in April. After scoring the opening goal with 7 minutes remaining, on his next shift he was in his own defensive zone, bravely blocking a shot with his legs on the blue line.

My three favourite DAB Panthers moments are as follows:

1. Keeping cool and scoring the game winning goal in the 2012 play-off final. After 53 minutes of tense, nervous deadlock DAB received the puck in front of Stevie Lyle’s net and switched from forehand to backhanded and flipped the puck past the despairing grasp of Lyle into the back of the net.

2. His first play-off final game winning goal, also against Cardiff Devils in 2011. With Ryan Finnerty having knocked Lyle’s stick out of his hands, DAB had the smallest of gaps to aim for from an acute angle. He found it and Panthers won 5-4.

3. The first league game of the 2010/11 Elite League season. It was live on Sky and well over 5,000 were there to watch it. Panthers fought back from 2-0 down to equalise in the 2nd period shorthanded, DAB receiving Danny Meyers perfect pass to skate in alone on Stephen Murphy and beating him easily to make it 2-2.

Of course all he has achieved has been done without any vision in his left eye, lost early in his career. Would he have made the NHL if that had not happened? Possibly, however he has to be congratulated for forging out a superb career in the face of such adversity. I will always be grateful that I got to see him play in a Panthers jersey and even more so that he was such a big part of our recent success.

Farewell, thank you & good luck David Alexandre Beauregard. Panthers legend.

He has been such an inspirational player. I only wish we’d had the chance to say goodbye and thank you properly. One of the few gentlemen of ice hockey.

100% effort 100% of the time. You could ask for no more from such an inspirational player. Wish him well for the future. As already said only hope we can get the chance to say goodbye and thank you
