Jono Bullard says goodbye & thank you to the departing Nathan Robinson

After a shock 5-3 loss to the Edinburgh Capitals tonight Nottingham Panthers have been dealt another blow with the confirmation that Nathan Robinson has to leave the club. After arriving in the UK on a temporary visa he has to leave the country on Tuesday, which was confirmed tonight in Matt Davies Nottingham Post report.

While it was expected it makes Robinson’s departure no easier. We have been privileged to see a quality player ice in a Panthers jersey these past few months and to be fair we only expected him to be part of the squad while we competed in the Champions Hockey League. The fact he has stayed to help give us an excellent foothold in the Elite League is credit to both the clubs ambition and the man himself.

Robinson has been totally honest about where his personal ambitions lie, he spoke to me after the Challenge Cup victory in Hull on the CWTV Podcast saying that he has ‘unfinished business’ in Germany and would like to return there. The Post report states that there are other options available to him but he could still yet return to the Panthers, but it would require a work permit that will take a few weeks to sort out.

Robinson played in all 6 CHL games scoring 1+4 to be the Panthers top points scorer in the competition. In the EIHL he has played 18 games for 5+12 for 17 points, including scoring 2+6 two weeks ago which saw him pick up the Elite League player of the week award. His great ability of bringing players into the game has seen some players thrive on a line with him, none more so than Jonathan Boxill who has teamed up so well with him and Chris Lawrence who has benefitted from Robinson’s exceptional distribution.

He leaves the team in a strong position and while he has been a major factor in Panthers rise up the table in recent weeks, I hope he has instilled the confidence in the squad that we can thrive without him, despite him being a big loss.

All that remains to say is good luck to Nathan Robinson and that it has been a pleasure watching him in a Panthers jersey. I genuinely hope that we will see him back playing for us in the near future.
